STAR BOATING CLUB.

i « Tho following report is to be presented to E tho members of tho Star Boating Clnb at the i> annual meeting to be held at the clubhouse t on Thursday, 2;>th inatant : —Tho Committee hiiß pleasure in submitting the 29th annual report, and congratulates members on the ' ooniinued soundness of the club's position, i The membership roll aeain shows an in- [ crease, there being now 359 names, of whioh 41 have been added dnring the season. The receipts for tho year are £716 11s, and the expenditure) £587 13s sd. Of the balanoe of £128 17s 7d, the snm of £100 haa again been 1 paid off the debentnre liability, which is i now reduced to £700. The assets, after allowing for depreciation, are £2634 8s Id, ' and tho liabilities £705 13a 3d, the balanoe to credit thus bailiff £1928 14s lOd. During the season a new olinker maiden four on N. Z.A.It Association lines, and also a l new whaler, have been added to the plant. • An old pleasure boat has been sold, and the i four old olinker inrigged fours have been puri ohased by a northern olnb. To replaoe the ; latter, three new olinker stnmp fours for the use of jnniors have been ordered, and will be . delivered by tho opening of next season. In i accordance with a recommendation of a commit'ee of rowing members appointed at the last general meeting, a raoini? four has been ' ordered from Clasper, of London, which • should be hero early in the season. A large ' order for oub and sculls has been sent to Ayling and Sons, to arrive in the colony ' about October. Tho olub was represented at threo regattas during the season, at Nelson, Chriatchuroh, and Pioton, the last- . named being the Championship Meeting. The exceptionally sovere gale prevailing at i Easter rendered lo.ving the Champion Regatta on the fiiod date impossible, and ' consequently none of tho olub's orews exoept the Maidenu were abe to remain long enough in Pioton to compote. No regatta was held 1 in Wellington. The main feature of the ' regatta rowing this season has been 1 the success of the Maiden four, due to 1 the careful ooaohing of Mr. Jackson, and systematic and conscientious training. • The olub races, of whioh there was a long programme, were largely supported and well oonteated throughout. A list of winning 1 orews in regattas and olub races ia attached. During the season a now arrangement was entered into with the onstodian, whereby his hours and pay have been increased, and the whole plant is to be kept in repair without payment for overtime. This has been found to work satisfactorily. The swim- , ming sports held on the 23rd of February attracted numaroua entries and a large number of spectators. The season was opened ; with a procession of boats on the 6th of i October. The President presented the prizes at the general meeting on the 14th of June. The annual ball, held on the 28th of July at Thomas' Hall, was again a great ' sucoeas. The olub deeply regrets the death by acoidaut. on the 9th of June, of Mr. Herbert Palmer, one of our most prominent oarsmen aud a universal favourite among members.
