.'BY TELEaEAWI.— P3ISB ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, 2nd Angnst. _ A t a meeting of timber- workers a resolution waa unanimously passed expressing alarm at the proposal to allow Canadian timber and joinery to bo imported into tbo colony free. It was also resolved to circulate a petition amongst tha fomalo relatives of timber workers. At a crowded meeting "of the Anckland Chamber of Commoroe to-day, resolutions were passed that the reciprocity treaty with Canada was undesirable as disastrously inj nring many lendm? industries and throwing largo numbors out of employment ; and that the reciprocal treaty with South Australia should not be confirmed by Parliament, as the proposals are. inimical to the interests of a large number of frnit-growers and viticulturUta. Telegrams were read from the Premier and tho Colonial Treasurer to the effect that tho representations would receive careful consideration, and from Mr. Cndman, who stated that he might be relied on to see that the timber industry waa not injuriously affeoted.
