Attempted Wife-murder at Hukatere.
SUPPOSED SUICIDE OF THE ASSAILANT.
[bt telegbaph. — PEisa association.] Pat*a, This Dat. A brutal attempt at murder took place at Hukatere this morning. _: A half-caste of Waitotara, named Wirigte Kaahu Koroai, attacked his wife, Parahi Ngakirikiri, with some sharp instrnment, inflicting terriblo wounds on her head and face, and then threw her on the fire and cleared out. She was found insensible this morning at 3 o'clock by Tutane, wbo rodo in and reported the matter .to Constable Carr, who, with Dr. Campbell, wont out to the pah. The dootor ordered the woman's immediate -removal to the Hospital, where she now lies in a very critical condition. There were no witnesses to the assault, but the hut presents an awfnl appearance, being bespattered with blood. Consiabls Hooper and the natives have gone in Bearch of Wiri, but be is supposed to have committed suici.lo. Wiri was implicated in the murder of a woman at Waitotara in 1890. Ho is a well-known footballer, about 30 years of ago.
