NATIVE PARLIAMENT.
[BY TELEGRAPH.] United Press Association. GISBORNE, THIS DAY. Crowds of natives are arriving from various parts of the colony to attend the Native Parliament which opens here at the end of next week. Sixty arrived by the steamer from Auckland yesterday, and 140 are to come from Napier by the Dingadee to-morrow. Great preparations are being made for the reception, accommodation, and entertainment of the visitors. A Maori " Parliament," to which large numbers of representative natives throughout this island have been summoned, will assemble at Turanganui, Poverty Bay (says the Auckland Star), next week. Extensive preparations have been made for the Parliament, and there is expected to be a big gathering. Representatives from all the tribes of importance in the North and South Islands will be present, The principal business of the meeting will be to frame a Bill or Bills in connection with native lands and matters affecting the native race, which will be presented to one of the native members to introduce in the House of Representatives next session. It is expected that the Premier will arrive at Poverty Bay overland from Whakatane in time to attend the runanga.
