The Chess Championship. [ By Telegraph.] [ UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, 31st December.

Barnes defeated Milner in 17 moves. Siedeberg won his game with Hookham. Sexton beat Wood. Eyre was succesful in his game with Cleland, and Jowitt defeatod Tait. 2nd January. Sixth round. — Tho game between Wood and Jowitt was declared drawn at the 69th move. Cleland resigned at the 45th move in his game with Sexton, as did Milnor in the 60th move in a game with Tait. Siedeberg beat Eyre. The game between Hoottham and Barnes is unfinished. The game is very even, and may result in a draw. This Day. Hookham has defeated Barnes, and Siedeberg has beaten Eyre in their game.
