THE VOLUNTEERS.
; The ordinary weekly drill of tho City ¦ Rifles took placo last evening at the Garri- , son Hall. There was a muster of abont 30 L members present, under Captain Collins. 1 After company drill tho corps was divided into squads, Instructor Butler, of the Permanent Force, taking charge of the signalling ( squad, and Sergeant Madely having charge ! of a squad for arm drill and bayonet exer- . cise. The men wero kept at work till 9 o'clock, when the company was re-formed. It was announced that the last Government musketry parade for the year would take i place on Monday next, and that it was • necessary for every man to attend in order 1 to earn capitation. After the parade was : dismissed, a meeting of the Amusement ' Committee took place. The Committee re1 ported that tho members' weekly danco at • tho Foresters' Hall is being iairly well ' attended, and it was decided to arrange for i a members' social gathering, to come off early > next month, arrangements for the samo to be 1 made after tho next Govornment parade. The Shooting Committee meet on Friday L evening next to make final arrangements for the coming shooting season. Rules andpro- | grammes will ba ready for issue on Monday next.
