WELLINGTON JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVE TEAM. Messrs. Grant, Skinner and Nicholls selected tho following team, last evening, to represent Wellington in the junior representative" match against Wairarapa at Newtown Park next Saturday : — Full-back, M'Carthy; three -quarters, Thomson, Bee and Morton ; halves, Mahoney, Warwick and J. Earle ; forwards, Laughton, M'Kay, Roe, Nicbolls, Rawson, Smithers, Wakelin and Wrigloy : emergencies, Lingard and Fay (backs), Home and Ridler (forwards). Drummond, D. M'Govern and M'Callum were set aside, as, owing to engagements, they are unable to take part in the match. The team on the wholo is a fairly strong one, though one or two alterations could with advantage have beon made. M'Carthy (Melrose), who will fill the position of fullback, is a medium tackier, but cannot be regarded as class enough for a rep. Tho three-quarters are a very fair trio. Thomson (Selwyn) is a strong runner, his kicking and collaring are firstclass, and when in an opponent's 25 is a dangerous man for scoring. Bee (Wellington College), who plays centro three-quarter, is an old Otago rep. man. His knowledge of tho game is most useful to the other players, and he uses his opportunities to feed up his backs. He is rather weak in tackling, but is a good kick, and at shot distance is a fair place kick. Morton (Poneke) is a clover little player, collars and kicks well, and never loses his head. Mahoney (Ponoko), Warwick' (Melrose), and Earlo (Selwyn), who fill tho positions of half-backs, are a good selection. Tho firstnamed player is as " hard as nuts," cunning, and feeds the three-quartor well, but has the great fault of trusting too much to his running powers. Warwick is also a smart littlo player, excellent at stopping rushes ; like hi 6 partner, vory cunning ; he never loses an opportunity to score or enable others to do so. He is also a very good place-kick. J. Earlo is a strong and powerful runnor, and likely to givo his opponents considerable trouble. His passing is always well timed, and executed with judgment; is a very fair place kick. The forwards aro a good heavy sot, and in this department should do some service. M'Kay (Selwyn) is good on tho line-out and in tho loose, but could with advantage use his weight moro in tho sorum {¦ J. Nicholls (Carlton) does excellent work in the loose and scrnm, very fast, and gets down on the opposing backs very quickly ; undoubtedly the best forward in the team. Rawson (Wellington) is also a fast forward, and does his share in tho scrum, and the samo applies to Roe (Wellington). Smithers (Wellington) is a forward of the dashing type, follows up well, good on the line-out, and quick at taking advantage of his opponents' mistakes. Wakelin (Molrose) is a player of the wing class, very smart, uses his feet well, and gets on tho opposing backs very quickly. Wrigloy (Athletic) works like a Trojan in tho scrum, and is very fair in the loose. All the above-mentioned players are requested to attend tho Poneke gymnasium this evening and Friday, for training purposes. The election of captain will take place this evening. The annual match between the first fifteens of Wellington and St. Patrick's Colleges took place at Newtown yesterday, and resulted in a victory for the latter by eight points to five. Neagle and Cullen each succeeded in touching down once for the victors, and Cullen also potted a goal. M'Govern scored a try for the Wellington College, and it was converted by Halley. The match was played in a yory friendly manner, and was witnessed with great interest by a large number of people. The touohline judges wero Messrs. J. 800 and M. J. Hodgins, Mr. W. Wynward acting as refereo. The team of Association players which will represent Wellington in the tournament at Chmtchurch met at the Wavorloy Hotel last night, and elected Wooldridge captain and Ireland vice-captain. Most of the men will leave Wellington for Christchurch, by the Tukapuna, to-morrow afternoon, and those who aro unable to leave then will go by the Rotorua on Thursday afternoon.
