RAILWAY RETURNS.
During the four wneka ending 31st March tie total receipts amounted to £107,961 19 a 3d, and the total expenditure to £62,274 0a 41. In the corresponding \vjriod last year the revenue was lsg,9is i 7s 2d, and the expenditure £55,737 12s Bd. Of the revenue .the North Island has contributed £32,449 0a lOd as compared with £28,162 13s lOd, and the Middle Island lines £75,512 18s sd, as against £60,753 3a 4d. Of the expenditure £21,879 2s 2d was on North Island HbSs, as compared with £18,325 6a ltd and £40,391 18s 2-1 on Middle teland lines, as against 437,472 5s 9d. On tho Wellington section the to'ceipts were £6460 Is 3d, as compared With £5125 12s 7d in the four weeks last year. Tho number of passenger carried was 2i, 1 728, as against 22,994, and the fares amounted tb £2527 4s Id, on against JC2O7-i 8s sd.
