Report of the Baptist Union.
FBt 'Telegraph.! | united press association. | Auckland, 13th October. The New Zealand Baptist Union's annual report shows a church membership of 615, a slight increase. Additional church and school accommodation has been provided in various towns in the colony, and the church debts have been reduced. The West Coast mission, under Mr. G. Johnston, is not yet self-supporting. A passage in the report, expressing a desire for the permanent union of the Baptist and Congregational Churches was expressed as being impracticable. At the same time fraternal sentiments were expressed to the Congregationalists as being more closely related to them than any other branch of the Christian Churoh. Fraternal prreetings were received from the Baptist Union of New South Wales, also from the Invercargill Baptist Church. The Missionary Society's report showed an income of .£422, an expenditure of .£2Ol, and a credit balance of £226 ; .£2OO of the balance was set apart as the nucleus of a building fund.
