An Interesting Catholic Gathering.
|Br Telegraph. I (UNITED PBEBS ASSOCIATION.) Nelson, 20th October. A banquet in honour of the jubilee of the golden wedding to the church, of Father Garin took placa in the Girls' Orphanage, St. Mary's, this evening. Abont 180 were present, including many la lies and citizens of all creeds. Bishop Iledwood, on whose rijjht Bat Father Garin, was in the ohair, and Judge Broad was in the vice-chair. The Bishop presented an address from the bishops and clergy in New Zealand, congratulating Father Garin. Judge Broad presented an address from the laity and the children representing the varions schools, including the Orphanage and Industrial Schools, who likewise presented addresses and bridal bouquets, and the children sang a song of jubilee composed for the occasion. Father Garin having out the wedding cake, the Bishop proposed the health of Father Garin, whom he addressed as the very venerable arch-priest, announcing that he had conferred upon him the dignity of the very venerable arch-priest of the Wellington diocese. The toast w»3 drunk with much enthusiasm and cheers. The Bißhop then presented the very venerable arch-priest with a purse of 100 soys. Father Garin was muoh affected, but delivered an excellent speech, and announced that he should devote his gift of 100 soys to his chnroh. Judge Broad then proposed the health of his lordship, of whom he spoke as a worthy pupil of a worthy master (the Venerable Arch-Priest Garin). The toast was received with cheers, and tho Bishop having feelingly replied, tha largo party broke up. Not born to blush unseen— The nose.
