Destructive Fire at'lnvercargill, [By. Telegraph. ]

[united pmis amooution.] Invkecaroill. 28th February. An extensive conflagration broke out here at 10.30 to-night, originating in the briok shop of Mr. Dunlop, a draper, in Tay-street. Dnnlop wu in the office of the Southland Times, Esk-street, at the time it broke out. The fire appeared to start in the front shop, as the windows fell out in a few minutes. The premises, whioh consisted of a very fine two-story building, were entirely destroyed with their contents. There was no inturanoe on the stock. Boss, a print seller, and oap. tain of the Fire Brigade, has a similar build* ing next door to the eastward, but this wm' • saved, the wind being very light, ( tod % parapet retaining the fire within its limits. Considerable damage was done by water. Thore also was a rookless destruction of plate-glass in Woods' bootmakeVs ikop, ' whioh was also cleared out. Adjoining to westward, and divided by a right-of-way, Hay and Co.'s general store (wood) was also destroyed, bnt not till a large quantity of goods had been removed. The shop of Perkins, a tailor, Ooodwillio, saddler, and two fruit shops were gutted, and Baine'i butchery was pulled down to stop the pro* gross of the flames toward Prioeand Bulud'i large warehouse.
