AUSTRALIANS v. NOTTS. TERRIBLE RAILWAY ACCIDENT. [bsutbb's tbleqbaks.] London, 4th September. The Australian cricketers commenced their return match against eleven of Nottinghamshire, at Nottingham, to-day. The weather was fine, and a large number of spectators were present. The Australians went in first, but, owing to the excellent bowling and fielding of the Home team, only made 131. The highest scorer was Murdoch, bowled, 72. He only gave ono chanoe, and his play was much admired. The Home team then went in, and at the close of the day's play had lost fire wickets for 41. Consols remain at par. New Zealand securities are unchanged. Adelaide wheat has declined Gd, and is quoted at 435, ex store. Adelaide wheat is unchanged at 355. New Zealand wheat, «x warehouse, 46s to 48s. Australian tallow, best beef, 46s 6d; best mutton, 46s 6d. At to-day's wool auction, the catalogue comprised 9000 bales, for which a fair demand was experienced. Bebldt, 4th September. A disastrous railway accident occurred to-day at Huldstette, near Baden. An excursion train, with a large number of passengers, left the rails. Fifty persons were killed, and a large number hare suffered injuries of a more or less serious nature.
