THE OAMARU WIFE CASE. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
Oamaru, 7th September. The Augustus caße was re-opened for hearing to-day before Mr. I. N. Watt, R.M. The evidence of Sergt -Major Thompson, Mrs. Carter (the nurse), Augustus' son (a lad ten years of age), and Detective O'Brien was taken. The hearing of the case lasted all day, and will be continued to-morrow. The boy Augustus admitted in the evidence having seen his father hitting his mother on the head with a boot after her confinement ; but his evidence was somewhat contradictorr. When arrested, prisoner Baid to Detective O'Brien, "I suppose the doctor has sent you. It would have been better for me to have cut my throat the day I married that woman." The case will be continued to-morrow, when important evidence will be taken. ______
