THE MAORI KING.

? PEACEFUL ADVANCES. The Native Minister received the following telegram last night for Major Mair, the Government Agent at Alexandra : — "Tawhiao, Wahanui, Manuhiri, and a number of other chiefs came in at 3 o'clock. Tawhiao ordered 80 guns to be laid down before me ; and Wahanui said that this was an offering in the name of peace. I responded that, on behalf of the Government, I accepted the guns in the same spirit, and all people would now be satisfied of ihe.genuineness of Tawhiao's declaration that there would not be any more trouble."
