CHEAP MEAT.
» TO THE EDITOR OP THE EAENING POST. Sir—l should like to know why the gentlemen who are taking so much interest in the proposed export of frozen butter and meat, don't devote their energies to supplying the inhabitants of this country with those necessary articles at cheaper rates. Perhaps they are anxious to relieve the suffering thousands in England who never sea meat, and only hear of it vaguely as something beyond their reach. Well, philanthropy is a very good thing in its way, but I believe in the charity that begins at home. Until I can got nay beef for less than sixpence a pound, mutton for loss than fonrpence, and butter for less than eighteen pence, I fail to see that any advantage will accrue by sending such goods out of the country. The only result will be that they will become dearer. It will be time enough to think of exporting when the local market is exhausted, lam, &c, Householder.
A nepro, after gazing at some Chinese, shook his head and said solemnly, "If de white ifolks be so dark as dat out dar, I wonder what's de colour ob de black folks ?" A man never realises, remarked a commercial traveller, how plentiful mustard is, and how scarce are bread and meat, until ho tackles a railway refreshment-room sandwich.
