THE ELECTION FOR THORNDON WARD.
+ Very little interest was excited yesterday in connection with the election of a councillor to represent Thoradon Ward in the City Council, tho vacancy for which seat was created by the resignation of Mr. George Fisher. Ihere were two candidates — Dr. A. K. Newman and Mr. G. Fisher. On Wednesday last, however, the lattar announced his intention of retiring from the contest, but the notice of such intention arriving just too late the election had to be proceeded with. A s will be seen from the undermentioned figures, Dr. Newman's committee seemed to have worked with the same assiduity, as if the election were a Closelycontested one Tho result of the poll was declared by Mr. J. Ames, the Returning Officer, about half-past six o'clock, as follows : — Newman 441 Fisher 30 Majority for Newman ... 411
