? [united press association.] Tauranga, 6th May. Tho case against Barfield for attempted robbery at the National Bank came on at 10 o'clock, and is still proceeding. Mr. Morris, the bank manager, Sergeant White, and Constable Whelan have been examined. Constable Whelan stated that after being cautioned the prisoner said. " Poverty drove me to this ; it w*s money I wanted ; it was not much, only or JJ6O." Nothing new beyond this has yet been brought out, and it is not known that the prisoner had any accomplices. Tho affair has produced considerable excitement here, and tho Court was crowded all day.
