William Cunningham, tor stealing a gold chain from a brewer at Hawera, was found guilty and sentenced to 18 months' hard labor ; Jas. Smith, for forging J. S. Caverhill's name to a cheque, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment ; John Wills, charged with stealing a chestnut mare at Akuhatu, was acquitted. The Grand Jury found a true bill against Wilkinson, charged with embezzling money from the Government at Hawera. This case will come before the Court on Monday. Port Chalmers, 6th May. In reference to the Peruvian barque Fray Bentos, a lator telegram states that '' the vessel will be towed in to-night. There is no disturbance on board, nor has there been any person drowned." Invbrcargill, This Dat. Mr. M'Caughan, M.H.R. for Riverton, has decided not to resign. He will address his constituents before the session, as also will Mr. Hirst, the member for Wallace.
