THE VOGEL RECEPTION AND FLUNKEYISM.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE EVBNIXG POST. Sir— Whilst I am one of those who at the time of the Vogel reception did uot agree with your views as to the same, that shall not prevent my doing you justice now. There was flunkeyism at the reception, but not amongst its promoters. The most glaring instance of flunkeyism was presented by one E. T/Gillon, who having spread all kinds of false rumors against Sir Julius during that gentleman's absence, turned out on the night of the reception in a black coat and trousers and white waistcoat and bell topper, aud planted himself under a gas lamp so that " the great and good man" might notice him. He it was, too, who kicked up an awful row with the committee because they did not connect his name with the toast of " The Press," and so give him kn opportunity of fawning on the man he had only a short time previously maligned. I am, kc, _ , A Working Man. Wellington, 21st August.
