CONCERNING WAKEFIELD & CO.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE EVENING POST. Sir— l fancy that was rather a lively meeting the other night. First of all, we have the virtuous indignation of the bashful (?) secretary, who had to have the billet pressed on him. (I reckon he was like the lady who said she ne'er would consent, and then consented.) Anyway, he delivered himself of his sentiments both as regards Mr. Wakefield end his horror of beer, and the very dreadful conduct (?) ol the Post. Poor youth ! But he did not tell how the meetings were got up, or who by, although his name is the most prominent of the triumvirate on the testimonial. Then we have another gent, who came such a distance to defend his late employer and speak a piece, and do a little gushing, by telling the meeting how he had kuown the chairman for upwards of twenty years in the colonies. Echo answers, where ? It must also have been a grand " spectacle" to see the other gentleman who, in the fulness of his heart, tried to defend the conduct of Mr. Wakofield, and pipe all hands to cast the blame ou the Evening Post. Hoping the next entertaioment will be at Te Aro end, so that we »hall not have so far to go, I am, kc, TOMMT t ,T. O.
