The St. Stephen's Tennis Club, Ashburton, visited Lincoln to play a friendly tennis match on Saturday afternoon, the home team winning by 10 sets to 2. The results were as follows (Lincoln names first):—
Women's doubles—Miss J. Hewton and Mrs T. Hewton 6, Miss J. Clarke and Miss D. Griffin 0; Miss M. Gillatt and Mrs W. H. Jordan 6, Miss A. Hawkins and Miss M. Edmonds 5; Miss F. Gibson and Miss J. Bascand 1. Miss D. Edmonds and Miss A. Griffin 6.
' Men's doubles—J. B. Hair and J. Hardy 6, A. P.' Baker and J. Hepburn 4; W. H. Jordan and H. R. Keast 6, K. Hepburn and P. Smith 4; A. L,. Peryman and S. C. Birch 6, J. Osborne and C. Attwood 2.

The visitors were entertained to tea and later at a dance and card evening held in the Lincoln Public Hall. The cups won during the year were presented by Mr B. P. Moran as follows:— Women's handicap • singles, Miss T. F. Hewton; men's handicap singles, Mr A. E. Davis; women's handicap doubles, Mrs T. Hewton and Miss T. F. Hewton; men's handicap doubles, Messrs John Hardy and Chas. B. Moody; miniature cup for women's handicap singles, 1938, Miss Joan Hewton; miniature cup for men's handicap singles, 1938, Mr A. E. Davis. The most successful players in tbfe card room were Miss Lexie Medlin 1, Mrs Jack Moody and Mr Thos Medlin 1 and Mr C. Brown and Mr S. Major equal second. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr Evan Watkihs and partner and music for dancing was provided by Mr Fitzgibbons's Band. Mr S. C Birch supervised in the card room and Mr Jim Greaves in the dance hall. Mr and Mrs A. Barrett (Lincoln) have returned from a holiday spent at v Akaroa. Mr and Mrs R. Inch and family have left Lincoln to reside in Ashburton. * Mr A. E. Davis, postmaster, Lincoln, is at present spending a holiday in Dunedin. Mr A. J. McMahon is the relieving postmaster. Mr W. K. Muir, of Lincoln7is visiting Dunedin.
