Mr and Mrs A. J. Henderson returned to Leeston at the week-end after spending a holiday at Sumner. The Rev. and Mrs G. P. Hunt, of Tauranga, former residents of Leeston, have been visiting the district since Saturday as the guests of Mr and Mrs P. B. Birkett, Leeston. They leave for the North Island by to-night's steamer. Mr G. Rodgers, of Leeston, who has been with Messrs P. Graham and Son for many months on the building of the new hospital at Hanmer, has almost recovered from an accident he met with about five weeks ago, when he fell from a ladder on to a piece of timber, breaking five ribs. For several weeks he was confined to bed and unable to move. Mrs Rodgers returned to Leeston last week after a lengthy stay at Hanmer. Mr F. Welstead, of Irwell, who has been under medical treatment ai Christchurch for some time, is now making fairly good progress towards recovery. Mention was made of this information at the meeting of the -Doyleston Hall Bazaar Committee last evening and members expressed their pleasure at learning of th,e progress made by Mr Welstead, whose loyal and generous support of any effort in the Irwell and Doyleston districts over a long period of years was greatly appreciated. Although he had been invited by his people to remain as. minister of the Leeston Methodist circuit for another year, the Rev. S. Bailey was appointed by the Methodist Conference last week to undertake special work for the church at Port Chalmers, and he will be leaving Leeston in April. His successor will be the Rev. H. W. Payne, who has been stationed at Otorohanga, North Island, for four years. Mrs Payne is a daughter of the Rev. J. W. Parker, a former minister of Springston cir- I cuit.
