YESTERDAY'S STOCK SALE.
There was a fair attendance at the Springston stock sale yesterday. The yarding of cattle and pigs was good, but there were very few sheep. A good tone prevailed throughout, fat stock of all kinds selling readily a little above current rates. Sheep sold exceedingly well. The sale of pigs was poor, and a number of lines failed to change hands. In the cattle section tho quality was good, and satisfactory prices were obtained.
Following were the prices ruling:— Sheep: 32 ewes and lambs 25/11, 30 ewes and lambs 21/6. Pigs: Weaners from 14/- to 16/6, stores from 21/6 to 30/6, porkers up to 37/-; top price for baconers was £3. Cattle: Bulls from £4 to £8 15s; dairy cows from £5 12s 6d to £11. GYMKHANA SOCIAL The series of euchres and dances run under the auspices of the Gymkhana Committee were advanced a further stage on Saturday evening. There was a good attendance. The prizes were won by Mrs E. Neale 1, Mrs P. Riordan 2; Mr C. Stace 1, Mr W. Thompson 2. Mrs P. Riordan supplied the dance music, Mesdames W. Greenslade and J. Benny, junr., contributing extras. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr and Mrs C. Mills. Mr E. Neale was M.C. SCHOOL PICNIC At a meeting of the Springston School Committee held recently it was decided to hold the annual picnic at Timaru on January 3rd.
