SEND-OFFS TO SOLDIERS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—lt weuld be a good thing if "Fire Brigade" had thought the matter out before rushing into print, for if he had done so he would have found that there are two sides to every question. "Fire Brigade" mentions the letter which the secretary of the Patriotic Committee sent to you complaining of the support given to the last Red Cross • concert. What has this got to do with the matter he is discussing? Does he put forward the non-attend-ance of the members of the Patriotic Committee at the socials as an excuse for the non-atteadance of himself and some of hiCT Fire Brigade associates' at the .concert ? If so, then it only proves that our secretary's letter has at least struck home in one of the deserved places. The whole tone of "Fire Brigade's" letter tried! to make out that the Fire Brigade were the only people who ditf] their duty, but I have doubts if they would do theirs on the occasion of "send-offs" if they'didn't gild it by dancing and cards, whilst those who do not care for these amusements have to sit shivering in a cold hall for about three hours awaiting the pleasure of the Fire Brigade to finish the cards and a dance or two before making the presentation. Last Tuesday's bandage evening had to be postponed because only . three men turned up; we rarely have more than a dozen, more frequently less; bandage rolling is irksome work and if the Fire Brigade would like to do some really practical duty they can come and roll bandages. In con* elusion I should like to point out to. w Fire Brigade " Jh*l, l^has been] very foolish and iU-aavised by rushing into print and trying to stir up strife at the present time when we should all be trying to pull together.—! am, et«^ b. volckmaSj
