The farmers heie have been taking advantage of ''. he iavorable weathei ut the past three weeks to get as much ploughing doue as possible. Ihis work has been considerably retarded owing to the iiott being so prolonged. Those who have Jett all their ploughing till the sp lin g wiU have some difficulty in the short time at their disposal to get their accustomed area in crop. A number of fanners are discarding the old douole furrow, and are going in for au up-tosdote four furrow. One of these ploughs, 1 am informed, drawn by five horses, is capable oi turning over six acies a day. Each plough is provided with a seat—an improv ruent which only those who have irmiged Lehind a plough will know how to appreciate. Although the latter part of the winter was very geveiet taking it on the was «n exceptionally good one for stock. Tue flocks and heids in this district are looking very well, indeed I have never seem them looking so well at this time of the vear,

There are a few lambs to be seen in Some of the paddocks, but lambing is by no means general, A good per.ceDtage is expected. Mr Jarn< s Ciouston had ihe misfortune to lose a fine draught horse the other day. The cause of •was infl immatijn. The owner in* forms me that he had just lately bought the horse, paying ,£4O for hini, A loss or two like this runs away with the profit.
