Unfortunately this turned to inflammation of the lungs, from which he died early on Friday morning, Mr Kay had followed mining pursuits in this district for a number of years. For several years up to the time of his death he had been working . with Mr James King. He was of a quiet j and retiring disposition and was liken and respected by all who know him. His loss is mourned by his widow and daughter, tor whom much sympathy is ftnt. His remains were interred in the New Cemetery ou Sunday afternoon. Mr James Cowan returned home from the North Island last week. He has been spending the winter months the hotsprings, but I am informed that bis sojourn there wan not quite so long as his health required and that he contemplates return* ing there at an early date. The Athletic Club has drawn up a good programme for the sports to be held here on the 31st prox. These sports ought to bo well patronised as there is nothing else on in the district on that day.
