Bxu, — Apropos of your yesterday's artiole on '* One reason why employment is scarce," in which it is suggested that the Government should give employment to men want- ' ing work and go* the bush land under cultivation and afterwards sail it in sections, I have been told by a GovernSsoat official connected with the Crown Lands Department that all the land or nearly all in the possession of the Government consists of the tops of the hills, and is consequently of little falffe, and unfit for cultivation ; being, in faot, Crown ISSd in mora aenses than one. 3 his gentleman told' mo this in answer to the query as to why the Govei'naent did not dispose of the land they have got instead of purchasing more from those who are bow' enataged iv farming their own and making good use of it. Could you kiudly let us know how much Crown land there is in the country that could be put to a iWri purpose, J»nd ia not hilltops or otherwise valii'elajf?.—l am* etc., April 17th, 1896. [Thia letter is dealt with in cur leading column.—lHd. Daily Tklugbaph.j
