THE A.M.P. SOCIETY.

(TO THE HBITOB,']

Sib,—The letter of Mr W. Kinross White appearing in your issue of Saturday has been read with much interest by policy holders *n t.bia society. lam quite satisfied from what I have learned of the views of sujh policy holder? that ih ta!o part of the world at any rate so long as the'propcuai to extend its business to Great Britain remains undisposed of the interests of the society will Buffer., I know enough of the workings of the Knglish and Scotch life assurance offices to be satisfied ti'at any Australian sooiety would find it impossible profitably to oompate with them. The accumulations of funds in the hands of the older life assuranoe offices of Great Britain enable them to earn profits outside of their premiums whiob make it possible for them to fix a low rate of premiums which for many years has practioally choked off all | attempts at the formation of new companies liv the Old Country. The great attraction of the A.ffl.P. Society to myself and those of niy friends who holi polioies in that sooiety has all along been ihe o'oacervative | cautiousness with whioh the institution haa i been managed. The proposal to rush | into competition with offices of suoh ex- ! perienca apd reeources as the English and Bootoh offices is s direct reversal of the policy whioh has hitherto' attracted the best lives and the largest insurers in xTew Zealand and Australia. I hope that all wSo are interested will give the matter their consideration and will lose no lime in signing tho protest which as you have intimated lies for signature at the offices of Mr Kinross White, Messrs Murray, Roberts, aud Co., and Messrs Williams and Kettle.-™! am, etc.,

P. S. McLean. Napier, 20th April, 1896.
