Piripiri Block.

MESSRS GUY AND RATHBONE'S'" PETITION DPHELD. - - jr [PBB PBESfI ASSOCIATION.]

Wellington, Last night. In Banoo to-day a motion re the Piripiri block, Hawke's Bay, was heard. An order for a certificate of titlo had been made in regard to the block, granting it to ten natives. The grant, however, as aotually issued by the olerk, by an oversight only iooluded eight names, two whioh were over the page having been left out. The eight grantees leased the land to Messrs Gay and Rathbone, but twenty-two years after tho issue of the original order (in 1892) the descendants of the two natives who were left out applied (without notice to Messrs Guy and Rathbone) to Judge O'Brien to be re-instated, and he made a minute purporting to reinstate them under section 62 of the Native Land Courts Aot, 1886. Messrs Guy _ and Rathbone now, through Mr Morrison, their solioitor, instructed by Mr* F. 08. Loughnan, moved for a writ of certiorari to quash the amendment of tho order, contending that the natives should have applied under eeotion 18 of the Native Land Act of 1889, which protected vested interests. His Honor granted a rule absolute to quash the amendment made by Judge O'Brien, and forbidding the introduction of new names excepting subject to Messrs Guy and Rathbone's interests. Ten guineas and oosts out of pocket were allowed the petitioners.
