School Inspectors' Conference.

Whixtngton, Last night. At the Sohool Inspeotors' Conference to* day it was decided after a long disoussion that the soienoe syllabus as at present issued by the department should remain in operation, and that while the teaching of soienoe should as far as possible ba experimental and illustrative, it would be an advantage for revisal and for securing sufficient supervision of the matters taught to have a suitable set of simple test books in the hands of the pupils.

It was decided that comprehension of tha language of reading lessons was of sufficient impoitince to justify a separate judgment as " excellent." &o , by the Inspector m every examination summary, and that such proved estimate might conveniently occupy the position which the subject matter of the reading lessons had hitherto occupied, and that it Bhould refer to all -v standard classes. With regard to the examination of pupil teaohers the Conference decided that there should be one pupil teacher system for tha whole colony and the same annual examination.
