Auckland, Last night. The hearing of the election petition against the return of Mr Richard Monk waa continued to-day. gome fifteen witnesses -ware examined. The evidence principally relate*-to the doings at Kumeu on the election dajrand went to show that beer ■ was freely dispensed, and that both Monk's and Palmer's fupporters partook of itEvidence was given by Miohaeh Mooney, oaptain of the Taupaki Ciioket Club, as to asking Mr Biohard Monk to beoome an honorary member of the club, and getting a cheque for a guinea from him before the election. In cross-examination the witness admitted, amidst much laughter, that Mr Palmer was also an honorary member of the olub, and also gave the witness a guinea before the election. Henry Hodgson, a gumdigger, deposed to getting a pass or order for beer. Albert Hayson, a gumdigger at Taupaki, after stating that he had voted at last year's general election, admitted that he was minor, a little over 20, and had to stand down. James Smith, a gumdigger, deposed to getting a pass or order for drink. Daniel Wilder, a gumdigger, deposed to both himself and his mate getting two beers each after voting. A good deal of the evidenoe was comparatively unimportant, and principally of the same character, relating to beer.
