THE ILLICIT STILL CASES AT PALMERSTON NORTH.
Paljieiiston North, This day. Tlie illicit still cases were continued yesterday. J. Jessop and Richard Peck were convicted of being concerned in illicit distillation, and were fined £100 each, or in default six months' imprisonment. The cases against Charles and George Peck were dismissed, on tlie contention of Mr Shaw that the evidence of tlie informer .Barnes being uncorroborated it could not be received to convict the defendants, he being an accomplice. On the Court resuming this afternoon the Bench decided to take the charges against Flyger and Malcolm separately. Flyger was then charged on six informations with breaches of the Distillation Act in .supplying means for maintaining, establishing, and working a still. Evidence was taken for the prosecution at great length; and at the conclusion Mr Shaw asked that the case be dismissed, as there was nothing to answer. Tlie case was dismissed accordingly. The other information against Flyger, and also those against Malcolm, were withdrawn.
