MR PETRIE BEFORE HIS CONSTITUENTS.
Greymouth, This day. Air Joseph Petrie, M.H.R., addressed his constituents last night. He reviewed his actions during the last session, and denied ratting from the Opposition. He said that as to Liberalism there was no question between tho two parties. The Premier and Major Atkinson were two of the greatest Liberals in tho colony, even to Radicalism. Neither Mr Macaudrew nor Mr Montgomery would suit. They were over-rated men, and with them in power it would be all Otago. He advocated a reform of the Upper House and the nationalisation of the land, even to borrowing sixty millions to repurchase for the State all laud already alienated. He contended that a great deal of valuable work had been clone last session, despite the alleged waste of time. He considered that the new members, whatever their ability, had minds of their own, and would be guided by them. No questions were asked, and he was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence.
