PUKEKOHE : VOLUNTEER MATTERS.

The usual Government monthly inspection parade of No. 1 Company Pukekoho Hide Volunteers was held on Friday. The corps was under the command of Captain B. Harris; Ensign Whit man being also present. The men, after having undergono the usual company drill and inspection under Major Lusk, the Government Inspecting Officer, were dismissed, in order to euable them to be present at the butts to witness the filing match between tour men of tins company and four members of the Wairoa Itifle Volunteers who, together with their commanding officer, Captain Wallace, were present. The following are the scores : —No. 1 Company Pukekohe Rifle Volunteers : Captain Harris, 60 ; Sergeant J. Graham, 55; Corporal J. Preston, G9; Piivafe J. Cathcart, 60: total, 244.— Wairoa Eifie Voluntecis: Vol. McCormack, Gl ; Vol. Cieighton, 60 ; Vol. McDonald, 50 ; Vol. Moore, 63 : total, 234 — leaving the Pukekohe Company winners by 10 points. The firing over, all parties repaired to the school-house, where dinner was waiting for them, which spread was got up in a manner deserving of great credit to all i concerned. The Pukekohe Volunteer Band was in attendance, and under the aide direction of their instructor, Mr. Bandmaster Chilmau, pel formed a goodly selection of music. Dinner being over the tables were cleared, and room made for dancing, when songs, dances, and selections of music by the band followed oue another, and were kept up with vigour till a good time after .daylight on Saturday morning, when all made for their respective homes, evidently much pleased. — [Correspondent ]
