PAPAKURA: DISTRICT MATTERS.
Some of our farmers are complaining of ravages made by the caterpillar. I saw the latter very busy to-day in a small patch of peas. Haymaking will soon be very general in this neighbourhood. I notice Borne very important works going on under the control of the Highway Boards of the two distrioto. The Wairoa Board has let au important eon'ract to iVxr. Carroll, of Kerikeri, which, when finished, will be a great boon to the neighbourhood. —Our Church of Eugland clergyman, the Rev. J. Bates, has been removed to Waiuku ; and I notice that the chursh wardens have been requested to call a meeting of the members of the Church for Monday evening next, to take the subject into consideration. It is much to be regretted that almost all interest in Church matters is confined to so few in this district. —Our school vacation commences next week, to the great relief of both children and teachers. I hear very general satisfaction expressed at the progr>s made by the children during the year.—A committee has been formed to celebrate some Christmas sports, which I believe will come off on the 37th instant.—[Correspondent.]
