LONDON WOOL SALES.

The following communication has been addreosed to the Chambers of Commerce at Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, aud Hobart Town, invitiua; their co-operation : — At the meeting of bankers), merchant?, wool-groweis, and others, interested in the sale of woo), held ab the Chamber of Commerce, at 2 o'clock on TucS'iay, sth October, 1869, it was moved by Mr. T. S. Mart, seconded by Mr. Kumraerer— " That in the opinion of this meeting it is desirable that the wools of these colouies should have special warehouses fcr their reception in London, and that such warehouses should be under the control of a committee of gentlemen resident in London aud connectrd with Australian interests." — Moved by Mr. Shepherd South, seconded by Mr. J. B, Watt, "That a feeling pervades tbe woolgrowers and others interested in wool, that their interests would be furthered by more frequent sales in London ; and this meeting is of opinion that the whole question of the present method of disposing of the wool of these colonies in London should be inquired into, but if deemed advisable, upon full investigation, steps Bhould be taken for the adoption of such measures as may be deemed necessary for the protection of the interests of the producers." — Moved by Mr. W. Glen Walker, seconded by Dr. Read, "Thar, for the purpose of securing the objects named in the following resolutions, a committee be appointed to inquire and report, and that this meeting be adjourned to this day month — to meet then for the reception of such report." The committee appointed to inquire into and leport upon the matter discussed at the meeting of bankers, merchant?, woolgrowero, and others interested in the sale of wool, held at the Chamber of Commerce, on the sth 00-_ tober last (copies of which resolutions are annexed hereu"to), beg to submit the following report : — " 1. They are of opinion that all inquiries into the matters alluded to in the above resolution! , from the abience of the proper channels of information in the colony, may be best made in London. 2. That to enable theae inquiries to be made as searching and as independent as possible, a committee of gentlemen, representing all the Australian colonies, be appointed in London, and that the following gentlemen be invited to represent New i?outh Wales there, v>z, : — Donald Larnaoh, E&q., W. F. De S»lis, Esq., William Mort, Esq., Edward Hamilton, Esq., Sir D. Cooper, Bart,, John Peters, Esq , F. H. Dangar, Esq. 3. That the gentlemen above named be requested to confer with the committee which now regulates the sale of wool by public auction in London, and from that and other sources of information ascertain the reasons, if any, which uphold quarterly sales of the wools of these colonies in preference to bi-monthly or even monthly sales ; to inquire into the mode of warehousing with a view of affording greater facilities for exhibiting the wools of the different colonies separately ; to Ascertain whether any reduction can be obtained in the existing charges ; and generally, in the interests of the oolomat*, to investigate the question whether any and what improvements can be made in the mode of selling Australian woola in London. 4. That the said committee be also requested to consider the propriety of the formation of a permanent committee in regard to the sale of wool generally, and to prevent such misrepresentation as is exposed in the letter of John L. Bowes and Bro , published in the Home Neios of 13th August, 1869. 5. That a copy of these resolutions be forwarded to the chairmen of the various Chambers of Commeroo of tbe Australian colonies, requesting them to appoint such parties as they may deem desirable to act with the committee appointed to represent this colony in London,"
