THE JUMPING CASES AT EARAKA. (FROM A CORRESPONDENT.)
March 4. Thb following are the names of some of the persons who jumped the most valuable claims in this goldfield: — Messrs. C ; F. Mitchell and Styak attempted to jump Cobley's share; Measra. McCarthy and Williamson, Hunt's share ; Mr. Mulligan, Barry's share ; Mr. W. S. Styak, Mulligan's share; Mr. John Brown, Kellys share ; Paddy Bonfield and " BallaMt," Tookey's share ; and last, but not least, W. H. Taipari, Esq., Sam Hamilton's share. You will see that Mulligan's own claim was jumped, on hearing which he, to indemnify himself against loss, posted off to Barry's. I regret having to report an accident which happened yesterday to Mr. Walter Williamson, and which might have ended fatally. Mr. Williamson was coming down a narrow track from the Waiotahi range rather too hastily, when his foot slipped, and he was precipitated from the top of a cutting in Mullig«n's claim a distance of 25 feet. The unfortunate gentleman sustained serious injuries about the head and face, and is now at the Waiotahi HoteL Dr. Lethbridge, who is attending him, reports that no bones are broken, and that a week's quiet will complete his recovery. Mr. Baillie has intimated that no Warden's Court will be held till the same is duly constituted. What will be the effect of this statement with regard to decisions already given by the Warden's Court so-called ? A nice point this for the legal profeision. The tender of Mr. Eric Craig for building a place of worship was accepted by the Church of England Committee last evening : the plan has been made by Mr. Beere, and the church, when finished, will be a very neat structure. The Kuranui Hotel and the Waiotahi Hotel were opened on Monday last; : they supply a want long felt in the quarters in which they are situated, and < are in every respect well fitted up for the accommotion of those who may patronise them.
