THE THAMES.
Mb. Dix, of the Pukorokoro flax-mill, with his household and workmen, returned to town yesterday in the outter ' Peter Cracrofb,' having broken up the flax-mill at that place in consequence of a threatened attack from the Hauhaua, coupled with the disturbed aspect of affairs in the district. Mr. Dix states that some days since a native arrived from Taupo, and warned him of the hostile intention of a band o£ natives, who were gathering strength in the district, and had threatened to attack the mill at Pukorokoro. Several strange natives had previously visited the place, and left an unfriendly feeling on departing, and this fact, coupled with the threats of others, had induced the workpeople at the mill to desert their posts; and the proprietor, finding his men reduced to two, determined upon abandoning the spot. The cutter was consequently chartered, and the mill brought town, as stated above. It is a great pity that this unhappy war spirit should interrupt the progress of industrial pursuits,
