TIMBER EXPORTS.

In our commercial news from the Mauritius, we find mention of the arrival of the schooner « Revenge,' Captain Burch, from New Zealand, with a cargo of timber. The 'Revenge' took her departure from the Mercury Bay saw-mills for her destination, with a cargo on account of Heron, David, and Co. She arrived at Mauritius on the 12th August. The prospects of placing her cargo profitably will be seen at a glance from the commercial report. We may aid that there is an import duty of six per cent, ad valorem, on timber, at the Mauritius. We are glad to find our mill-owuers pushing the sale of their timber in foreign markets. New Zealand timber has, doubtless, great competition to face abroad, but we think there is every encouragement for setting per3everingly to work. Our readers will also peiceive the inducement for preparing shingles for export, by referring also to the Mauritius report.
