We compile the following from the tables in the last Gazette : — Imports for the quarter ended Juno 30, 1866, £1,282,485 ; corresponding quarter, 1865, £1,462,948. Exports, June quarter, 1866, £1,183,886 ; corresponding quarter, 1865, £599,620.
The gold export, on the June quarter of 1866 was 185,347 ounces, worth £729,867, as compared with £362,361 for the June quarter of 1865. Of this total Auckland exported 2,070 ounces, valued at £6,251. The kauri gum export from Auckland for the June quarter was 844 tons, worth £25,579; potatoes, £1,028; tallow, £3,637; timber (sawn, hewn, and spars), £6,088 [this return does not include shipments to neighbouring provinces, but only beyond the seas] ; wool, £3,606. The total exports from Auckland, on the June quarter, 1866, atnouuted to £57,779, of which £44,818 was produce and manufactures of the colony. The exports on the June quarter, 1865, amounted to £21,140. The exports from Auckland were £11,541 in exoess of Wellington province on the quarter. It was as much *s £55,614 in excess of Hawke's Bay during the same period ; and returns no less than £44,239 in excess of Nelson. Marlborough only figures at £130 altogether, and Taranaki at £319. So that the exports from the province of Auckland, in the June quarter, exceeded that of the rest of the North Island by £9,057 ; *nd yet this does not represent any part of our immense interprovincial trade in timber, &c. Looking at the two chief provinces in the Middle Island, there wonld be nothiug to compare to Auckland but for the gold and wool.
