NEW SCOUT HALL AT LOWER HUTT
Built By Community Effort
When their hall -was put out of use by the earthquakes last year, the Scouts of a Lower Hutt troop set to work to provide themselves with another building. They began with a capital of X2S and soon this was increased by the sale of 1 i acres of potatoes grown by the boys.Bottles also were sold and jumble sales xvere organized. Donations of money were received from many friends, ineluding the Rotary Club. A piece of land was leased from the river board. An old building was procured and moved to the site by the Home Guard. Work began on its renovation; flooring was renewed and timber from discarded motor-car cases was used to line tlie roof. Plate glass windows were given, together with high-powered electric light bulbs. Labour needed for the work was entirely without cost, except for the covering of the roof with tiles. Residents ot Lower Hutt helped tlie boys in their workon the weekends. The building is estimated to have cost about £7OO and the floor space of 140(1 square feet xvill provide ample accommodation for the Scouts.
