FIGHTING IN CAPITAL OF BULGARIA
LONDON, May 6. Widespread rioting, in wli'icli police and soldiers machine-gunned crowds, raged in Sofia for two days from May 4, says the “Evening standard’s’’ • Berne correspondent. Tile death roll is reported to be heavy. Incidents reminiscent of Dolfuss’s repression of the Austrian Socialists occurred in various parts of the city. The leaders of the disturbance, which was apparently well organized, were Socialists.
In Austria pitched battles were fought In 1031 In the Socialist municipality ot Vienna between forces of the Dolfuss regime. using artillery, and workers armed with rides and some machineguns. The reference in the cable suggests the magnitude of the reported rioting in the Bulgarian capital.
