VAIN AIR ATTACK ON PORT MORESBY

Allies Hit Ship In Rabaul LONDON, April 17. An Australian communique states that five bombers and five fighters raided Port Moresby this morning. The Japanese, were engaged by our fiigbters. Fifty bombs were dropped, but no casualties and no damage resulted. Allied aircraft raided Rabaul shortly after midday on Wednesday. A direct hit and a near miss were registered on a ship in the harbour. Wharves and buildings were probably hit by bombs. All four planes returned Another bombing raid was carried out on Koepang at dawn yesterday morning by the Royal Australian Air Force. Planes dropped high explosives on the aerodrome.
