Nazi Conquest Plans THE NEW ORDER AND ROSENBERG /

A few years ago, an ingenious Polish publicist analysed the degree of recurrence of certain stock phrases in official Nazi literature. His researches showed that the phrases “Our Fuehrer” and “the whole world” (“Die gauze Welt”) predominated over ail others. • The sentence, “Today the Reich is ours; tomorrow the whole world,” was endlessly repeated in Nazi marching songs, school lessons, and ah forms of Government propaganda. At first Hitler had said that “National Socialism” is not an article for export,” and he limited his nominal aims to the reunion of all Germans; but, in practice, and latterly in theory. Nazidom has turned to the doctrine of “a world of Deutschthum for all time.'’ During recent weeks, further proofs of the world-wide ambitions of the Nazi regime have been vouchsafed, notably by Rear-Admiral Luetzow, one of the most apt pupils of “the mondial geopolitician’’ Haushofer, who issued a. lengthy broadcast urging the conquest of Australia by “a big Power.”

Japan Egged-on Under existing conditions, this could only mean an egging-on of Japan, in which country the new Premier, General Tojo, has made several speeches stressing Japan’s intention to push on undauntedly “in order to attain the nation’s mission.”

But General Tojo might well ponder the fate of Italy. Hitler’s collaborator in the Mediterranean has become his helot; and, under the plans of the Tripartite Pact, Japan has promised to play the part in the Pacific which Italy played in the Mediterranean. The parallel needs no pressing.

Another demonstration of Nazi weltpolitik was afforded by President Roosevelt in his Navy Day speech. Tlie secret map in the President’s possession showed a South America divided into five Nazi vassal States, extending from the Falkland Islands up to beyond Panama, and so designed as to make all South Americans mere fodder for Hitler’s industrialized worldorder. It'has needed little imagination to foresee the role left to the United States after this regrouping of the continents. -

In the weekend came von Papen’s notable interview (later denied by his employers), in which he sketched out plans for a new Mediterranean and Near East and cynically offered bribes to countries which he may hope, will do some of the Reich’s work for her and themselves be enslaved in. the “Aryan’s” empire, or “new order.” Job For Rosenberg

The latest development of all, and one that has unimaginably horrible significance in the immediate future for millions of the human race, is the appointment of Alfred Rosenberg as "Minister for the occupied eastern territories.”

This means principally western Russia. And for Lens of millions of civilians whose fight has shown that they can never toe. wholly defeated it means that Hitler Jias played his trump card. The name Rosenberg means that in occupied Russia the “Aryan super-race” theory ■ will be applied in its naked, brutal form. It means that in the part of Europe, where, as Mr. Churchill has so often stated, the Nazi gunmen and torturers have been the most active and merciless, it is now going to be still worse, with no longer any possibility of expecting a new policy of “conciliation.” It will be the Nazi new order in probably its logical ultimate form. Who is this Rosenberg? John Gunther, in “Inside Europe,” wrote: “Rosenberg’s whole philosophy, ideology, and career are based on a psychopathically intense hatred of the Soviet Union.” This “philosopher with the sour stomach,” Nazi race theorist and specialist in foreign affairs, is one of Hitler’s most intimate associates. He is editor of Hitler’s newspaper, “Voelkische Beobaehter,” heads the foreign political bureau of the Nazi Party, and is “Director of Philosophical Outlook” for the Reich. He was born in 1893 in Esthoma (then part of Russia), and is thus a German Balt. He was educated there, and at Moscow. His position in the last war has been a mystery. Some reports say he was conscripted in the Russian army, and others that he escaped and joined the German army. He arrived in Munich in 1919 and "intoxicated Hitler’s imagination . by his dreams of a German empire in the East, and became the chief prophet or German expansion and imperialism. Rosenberg is the “nigutmare dreamer of Nazism. When he attempts to put his dreams into practice he is a miserable, grotesque failure.” That is a description by Mr. Gunther, who explains that Rosenberg’s only adventure into practical politics was a rather unsuccessful goodwill visit to England in .1933.

That is Mr. Gunther’s opinion. Now that Rosenberg has entered practical politics again, this time with the western republics and provinces of Russia at the mercy of his Aryan master and sub-human slave theory, the hapless Russian people's opinion is likely* to be somewhat different.
