23 YACHTS START IN RACE; 5 FINISH
Reid Shield Won By Cavalier
Twenty-three Idle Along yachts, represeuting most of the main harbour clubs, started in the Hgretaunga Yacht Club’s race for the Reid Shield yesterday afternoon. Only five finished. The rest of the fleet either withdrew from the race because of the scant and fluky breeze, or failed to drift round the course. The Worscr Bay boat Cavalier won; Belvedere. of Evans Bay, was second. The other three boats to tiush were Tornado, Elaine, aud Rongomai. The course was a triangular one off I’etone Beach. The race started at 2.39, finished about 6.30. In spite of the light airs, it was a most interesting contest the five boats which left the rest of the fleet far behind changing order continually. mid finishing in very close order. The chairman of the Wellington Provincial Yacht and Motor Boat Association. Mr. L. Robertson, presented tho shield to tljy skipper of the winning yacht.
