LONG WAITING LIST
Free Kindergarten At Lower Hutt There were 50 children on* the roil and a long waiting list, said Mrs. 11. Atkins, principal of the Lower Hutt Free Kindergarten, at the annual meeting. Mr. F. Still, assisted by Mrs. AV. Jones, secretary, and Mrs. H. Baldwin, treasurer, presided. Lack of assistants greatly retarded this importapt work, the principal said. While expressing- warm appreciation of the ever-ready assistance of the committee, mothers’ club, and the many friends of the kindergarten, Mrs. Atkins deplored the lack of out side financial help, which greatly hampered the work. At present there was only one assistant, Miss Vivienne Aldred. The end of last year saw a definite increase in the number of children attending the kindergarten, owing to the fact that children were admitted from the Woburn and Waiwetu districts, where a large number of new houses had been erected. The report of the school doctor was favourable, the fact that the children’s teeth were in a better condition being attributed to improved diet. Mrs. Jones, secretary, reported that the various social gatherings held during the year had proved “most satisfactory. She acknowledged the financial assistance received from various bodies and individuals.
