CHANGE OF CONTROL

Wellington’s Baths, Beaches And Playgrounds The control of Wellington’s ’ baths and beaches, hitherto in charge of the director of parks and reserves, Mr. J. G. MacKenzie, has been invested in the city engineer, Mr. K. E. Luke. A similar transfer of authority has been made in the case of the children’s playgrounds. ■When the matter was referred to him last night, the mayor, Mr. Hislop, said that this decision followed the recommendation of the special committee set up by the city council to investigate the operations of the reserves department. The report and findings of that committee were submitted to a meeting of the council on December 11.

At the next meeting of the council on February 12, a motion by Or. P. M. Butler will be received asking that the reports and findings of the special committee be referred to a commission consisting of a stipendiary magistrate or person approved by' a stipendiary magistrate, who shall adjudicate on it.
