VICTORIA HOUSE
Fire In Debris When fire broke out among debris on the first floor of the gutted Victoria House in Victoria Street, Wellington, on Sunday afternoon, the Are brigade found it necessary to run out a lead of hose to deal with the flames. It is thought that the outbreak was caused by someone searching among the wreckage, dropping a lighted cigarette butt. Victoria House was practically burned out on the night of March 28, 1938, damage being done to the extent of £lOO,OOO. It was one of Wellington’s most spectacular fires.
