New Plymouth Explosion (B v Telegraph—Press Association J NEW PLYMOUTH, January 31. A loud explosion startled people in tlie business are of New Plymouth at .11.15 n.m. today. It was heard easilj •i mile away. Raiiwav experts were blasting th' concrete base of an old crane as part of a scheme for extension of tlie railwav vii rds. The explosion idew small chips'of concrete several blocks, al ew landing in tlie main streets. One ricocheted off tlie Bank ot New Zealand through a window of a neighbouring simp. Xo other damage was done and no one was injured, though there were a few close escapes from flying chips.
