MEAT WORKS AT WAITARA

Extension Programme

The Waitara Borough Empowering Bill, which authorizes the Waitara Borough Council to grant to Thomas Borthwick and Sons (Australasia), Limited, the right to construct a bridgeover Queen Street, Waitara, was reported back to the House for committal by the Lands Committee. The member in charge of the Bill, Mr. Frost (Government, New Plymouth), said all formalities had been complied with. Borthwicks had agreed

to reconstruct and enlarge their works. A substantial amount of the work had already been done and this would be completed in 18 months or two years. It was expected that the development of the works would substantially increase employment and the population of Waitara in the future. The bridge was required for the transport of carcases and other goods between portions of the company’s works on opposite sides of Queen Street.
